Shocking Confession in 'Gay Black Dahlia' Murder Dismemberment

A police detective, a documentarian, and a stay-at-home dad have reportedly solved the infamous 1990 murder and dismemberment of a gay adult film star in West Hollywood. The case had been dubbed the ‘Gay Black Dahlia’ and serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer was once erroneously thought to have been involved in the murder.

William Arnold Newton, who performed under the name Billy London, was last seen outside The Rage Nightclub in WeHo on October 29, 1990. The following morning, his severed head and feet were found by a transient in a dumpster on Santa Monica Boulevard in neighboring Hollywood. The rest of his body was never recovered. Newton was 25 at the time of his murder.

The murder went unsolved for over 30 years until this morning when the unlikely trio of sleuths revealed the results of their investigation for a feature story in the LA Times.

LAPD Det. John Lamberti, Circus of Books writer and director Rachel Mason, and amateur investigators Clark Williams told the LA Times a former white supremacist skinhead and gay adult film performer who now identifies as a transgender orthodox Jewish woman is responsible for murdering Newton.

Daralyn Madden is currently serving a life sentence in Oklahoma for the 2007 murder of another gay man, Steven Domer, as well as the murder of her accomplice in that crime. Madden and a fellow white supremacist named Bradley Qualls kidnapped and killed Domer as an initiation into a local Oklahoma skinhead gang. Madden later shot and killed Qualls before she was shot and apprehended by police.

A tip to Williams led the investigators to Madden, who soon confessed to Newton’s murder.

Madden told the trio of investigators she and a group of fellow skinheads targeted Newton as part of a robbery on the night he was murdered. Madden said she calmly abducted Newton and took him to an unknown location where she strangled him to death. Despite taking responsibility for the actual murder itself, Madden claimed no involvement with the dismemberment and refused to reveal what happened with the rest of the body.

At the time Madden, then known by her birth name Darrell Lynn Madden, was an avowed skinhead and white supremacist who also performed in gay adult films under the name Billy Hunter. The heavily tattooed Madden reportedly once shaved her eyebrows and replaced them with the tattoos “SKIN” and “HEAD.”

Lamberti said he was shocked when he first met Madden.

“We’re talking to a person who has swastikas tattooed and is also wearing a knitted pink yarmulke,” Lamberti told the Times. “The person we’re talking to is a gay porn actor, transgender skinhead, Nazi orthodox Jew. You write that down in a sentence, and it’s like, ‘What?’”

Newton appeared in numerous adult films during his short career including Swap Meat, Hard Choices, and his last performance In the Grip of Passion. At one point, he was rumored to have been seen on the night of his murder with a man resembling notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Dahmer denied any involvement with Newton’s murder.

While armed with a confession, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón has opted against filing charges against Madden, saying there is little chance of obtaining a conviction after the passage of 30 years.
