Canada's Buddies In Bad Times Theater's series, Queer, Far, Wherever You Are offers a digital platform for queer and trans artists.
With its theater dark, Toronto’s Buddies In Bad Times, reportedly the largest and longest-running LGBTQ+ theater in the world, has turned to digital spaces to continue providing opportunities and platforms for queer and trans artists. The on-going series, Queer, Far, Wherever You Are takes place every week day on the theater’s Instagram page.
Tune in at 5 p.m. EST for a wide range of performances — everything from puppetry to burlesque, make-up tutorials to performance art, and dance parties to poetry readings. Launched March 27th, the series has already featured Latinx drag king Gay Jesus (Heath V. Salazar); queer femme Filipina Catherine Hernandez (above); puppeteer and photographer Ali Eisner; and a dance party with DJ Sofia Fly.
Originally set to end April 8th, the series is continuing, with performances currently scheduled through April 22nd. The digital performances are free to attend, but financial support is deeply appreciated and helps the theater continue to collaborate with artists, develop new works, and engage in meaningful dialogue.
Artists perform live 20-45 minute sets on the Buddies Instagram account (@buddiesTO) at 5 p.m. Eastern.
