Stuart Jackson took ownership of Crew’s Quarters Boarding House in late 2020, but the inn has been queer-owned since 1959. It was known as The Ranch until 2003 when it became Crew’s Quarters and now Jackson says, “We are bringing our guests back to the glory days of Provincetown. Our vintage-inspired Boarding House provides an immersive experience to enter an all-male boarding house in the style of the early 20th century. I wanted to bring a vintage speakeasy-style queer guest house into being. You step back in time when you enter Crew’s Quarters Boarding House; we pay distinct homage to our queer brothers who would not have had the liberties, freedoms, and acceptance we do today as a community.”
Reflecting on what first drew him to P-town, Jackson says, “A queer community, with creativity at its core, located on a sand bar — how could I say no!” He loves the inn’s guests and the way “the vibe of the house changes constantly. I love the all the dynamics that occur — it’s like a new gay family is created every week.”

The Foxberry Inn has been around since the ’70s, according to current co-owner Dan Spinello, “but back then it was known as Bill White’s Motel.” It’s been The Foxberry Inn for about 15 years; Spinello and his partner, Matt, bought the B&B in 2019, then upgraded four of the rooms to suites. “We love the views of the dunes and Boy Beach that you can see from the balconies of the upstairs rooms,” Spinello says. “Provincetown is magical and queer…that vibe of artsy queerness and Cape Cod charm are what made an impression and kept bringing us back. Matt and I both vacationed in P-town for the past 20 years. My ideal day starts with chatting with our hotel guests over breakfast. We love sharing P-town with people who have never been here before. It’s like we get to vicariously relive that exploration and excitement as they fall in love with it themselves.”
According to Spinello, The Foxberry is “the closest hotel to the beach, which is great if you plan to spend a lot of time with your toes in the sand. Even if you just want to sit in our front yard, you can spend all day watching the boys cruise by in speedos on their way to the beach, while you sip a cocktail from our minibar.”

Steven Azar opened the Stowaway in early 2019. He had been doing weekends to Provincetown for years, and “the idea of exiting city life and working for myself inside a tight community of like-minded, hardworking people by the sea was appealing. What Provincetown offers has turned out to be the kind of luxury I’m very grateful for, which is being able to take time to watch the sunset at Hatches Harbor every day, taking my road bike out to Wellfleet, surf the beaches less traveled on the Outer Cape, and having some of my favorite people within a beach stroll. The Stowaway presented an opportunity for a new, healthier life where I could hold space for the ever increasingly underrepresented in town, and truly be engaged in a community I really loved.”
“Many aspects of Provincetown are pure magic,” Azar says. “Stowaway has never wanted to be set apart, but rather be a part of the fabric and add to the magic. Connecting people from all walks of life to art and the artists themselves, to maybe think differently, or to open their mind to find love in the unexpected. Come and enjoy Stowaway’s Victorian architecture, manicured grounds and art-filled walls, the Steinway, its unique wellness packages, sauna and hot tub…but, really, come find the Stowaway to connect.”
