Australia's Yarra Trams has unveiled a new Pride streetcar that will grace the streets of Melbourne into 2023. The design was chosen from an #AllAboard Pride Tram competition. The streetcar was wrapped in a mural by the winning artist, Marco Pennacchia, a Victoria resident whose design was chosen by public vote.
A statement from Yarra Trams said, "This tram is a visible symbol that everyone is welcome on-board Melbourne’s trams and a message of inclusion and support for Melbourne’s rainbow communities. " The design was revealed on December 12, 2022 and was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, Josh Bull MP.
Yarra's acting chief executive Adele McCarthy said, “Everyone is welcome on-board at Yarra Trams, and our #AllAboard tram is an important symbol of [our] commitment to diversity and inclusion. I’m proud that Marco’s stunning mural will feature on one of our trams throughout 2023 and I hope it brings joy and pride to Melbourne’s rainbow communities whenever they see it.”
Australia will host the 2023 World Pride in Sydney early next year.
