Last year, the Educational Alliance and 14th Street Y piloted a one-week summer camp specifically designed for LGBTQ+ kids.
New Country Pride Camp provided much-needed safe space outdoors for LGBTQ+ youth, ages 5 to 13 (entering kindergarten through eighth grade).
The New Country Pride Camp was a resounding success, as LGBTQ+ children enjoyed all the usual summer camping activities like hiking and swimming and making smores, but in an affirming environment.
The interest was so strong and attendance so high that organizers expanded this year’s camp to three full weeks. Campers were able to hike, swim, and live their true selves amid the trees and meadows of the beautiful 75-acre Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds.
Here are some pics from this year’s New Country Pride Camp, where LGBTQ+ youth were able to safely experience summer camp and the great outdoors.
