'Trump Shutdown' Putting Travelers' Safety at Risk

TSA agents quit and call off with the 'blue flu.'

TSA officers are calling in sick and now quitting as the government shutdown enters its 18th day, potentially putting travelers at risk. The head of the TSA Council on the American Federation of Government Employees, Hydrick Thomas, said that employees aren’t willing to continue working for free.

“Every day I’m getting calls from my members about their extreme financial hardships and need for a paycheck. Some of them have already quit and many are considering quitting the federal workforce because of this shutdown,”  the official said in a statement posted to the union's website on Tuesday.

While travelers are being inconvenienced and slowed down due to massive lines, experts warn that back ups could increase, but also the risk of security threats increases each day. Thomas called the situation a "massive security risk for American travelers since we don't have enough trainees in the pipeline or the ability to process new hires." [USA]
