NYC’s sex-positive dessert shop will offer customers the option to donate to the American Cancer Society with every purchase.

Sugar Wood, Manhattan’s inclusive, sex-positive dessert shop, is commemorating October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month by introducing its limited-edition breast waffle, a Pumpkin Spice dessert in the shape of a breast, hand-decorated with white chocolate, peanut butter or chocolate coating, and a dollop of raspberry chocolate.

“Over the last year, we have had multiple customers asking why we don’t have breast-shaped waffles on our menu, and numerous requests for a pumpkin spice waffle, so we have combined the two this month,” says Austin Allan, the owner of the Soho-based shop. “Our hope is that our new breast waffle serves as a reminder to all that life-saving cancer research is crucial.”

The waffles retail for $13 each or $25 for a pair. All customers will be given the chance to donate, in $1 increments, to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Sugar Wood will match every donation dollar for dollar. A limited quantity of treats will be available each day and the dessert will only be available now through October 31.

The breast waffles are the latest addition to the dessert shop’s cheeky offerings. Sugar Wood is best known for its “Kitty” waffles, phallic-shaped “Woody” waffles, Kama Sutra cookies, and other titillating treats. The delicacies are wildly popular with birthday, office, and bachelorette parties. To accommodate the demand, the dessert shop recently expanded its operating hours and added a catering arm that offers party boxes packed with a baker’s dozen of waffles and three bottles of Sugar Wood’s signature sauces for drizzling.

“The idea for Sugar Wood came from traveling around the world and seeing penis-shaped foods everywhere,” Allan, who previously created the brand Tio Gazpacho, explains. “Baguettes in Paris, cookies in San Francisco, wine bottles in Napa Valley… I wanted to bring the craze to New York.”

Brooklyn-based design duo Guillermo Ovies and Sebastian Arguello developed the Sugar Wood brand in conjunction with Allan. Another close friend, Tom Smallwood, formerly of Magnolia Bakery (and past contestant on the Food Network’s Spring Baking Championship), consulted on Sugar Wood’s recipes.

Says Allan, “Our intention is not to be vulgar or pornographic but to be silly, fun, and lighthearted. We simply want to make people laugh and create a bright spot in their day or on their trip to NYC. And with the breast waffle initiative, we are continuing our tradition of giving to causes we care about.”

Since its launch, Sugar Wood has donated a portion of its profits to organizations including the Phluid Phoundation and Abortion Freedom Fund.

Sugar Wood is located at 157 Prince Street in NYC and is open seven days a week. Visit sugarwood.co for more information.
