It would only seem natural that actor Tituss Burgess would have a wine brand. In 2012, the hilarious Emmy-nominated actor appeared on 30 Rock as a character named D'Fwan who introduced his own label "D'Fwan's D'Fwine" and, more recently, the music video for "Peeno Noir", as performed by his character Titus Andromedon on Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, became an online sensation with over two million views so far.
"Yes, the idea came from the 'Peeno Noir' episode. After the song went viral, people were tweeting at me and Instagramming me and all this good stuff and asking me to take a picture with random bottles of wine," recalled Burgess. "So, I thought, 'Why would I assist in promoting different wineries I had nothing to do with? I should just create my own line.'"
And so he did. Burgess paired up with Anthony Allport, marketing expert and owner of Fine Wine Agency, to create a rosé and - of course - a pinot noir.
"I tested out about thirteen different blends and the one that's out now was the third one I tried," explained the actor. "I knew right away that was going to be the one."
He continued, "Pinot noirs are usually thin and lighter going down. I wanted something more full-bodied... something a little thicker, a little darker and this has it all."
To celebrate the launch of the two wines, named Pinot Pride and Rosé Pride, respectively, the actor will be hosting a three day "Taste of Tituss" event in New York City this weekend that includes a multi-course dinner with wine pairings (Friday, June 17), a barbecue brunch (Saturday, June 18) and an official launch party with performances by Burgess and Courtney Act. Tickets are available at Tituss.eventbrite.com and all proceeds will go to benefit GLAAD and Equality Florida.
