Last year, Playbill altered its logo for the first time in its 130 year history in honor of LGBT Pride Month. This year, Playbill Pride will be hosting a special event on June 13 in partnership with Disney Theatrical Productions and Family Equality Council, and sponsored by Amtrak. Family Day OUT invites LGBT families, friends, and allies to celebrate equality with a one-of-a-kind Broadway experience.
The day will begin with a pre-matinee lunch in Times Square, where guests will be joined by the cast of Aladdin and The Lion King. After participating in activities hosted by Disney Teaching Artists, Family Day OUT will continue to the theaters, with select seating at the 2pm showing of the two Disney productions.
“As a proud adoptive parent, I know how vital stability and love is to the development of a child. No one should be denied the right to provide that love solely based on his or her sexual orientation,” said Philip Birsh, President & CEO of Playbill. “I am very proud to be an ally in the fight for family equality and thrilled to host an event with my friends at Disney Theatrical Productions and Family Equality Council toward that end.”
“We’re thrilled to partner with Playbill and Philip Birsh on this celebration,” said Thomas Schumacher, President and Producer Disney Theatrical Productions. “We at Disney Theatrical are proud to have stood for diversity and inclusion since we started producing on Broadway more than 20 years ago and this event is a perfect opportunity to support that.”
“We are proud to partner with Playbill on this event,” adds Gabriel Blau, Executive Director of Family Equality Council. “The LGBTQ community has long and deep ties with the Broadway world. We are thrilled both groups can unite this day to celebrate our children and support equality for every family.”
Tickets go on sale May 1, with a portion of proceeds going to Family Equality Council. Visit their website for more information.
