Pussy Riot, the feminist political punk rock group from Russia, has announced the production of a two month theatrical experience —titled Inside Pussy Riot—about their history in prison and as loud political opponents in one of the world's great tyrannical states.
The "experience," as it's being touted, will be produced by groundbreaking London theater company Les Enfants Terribles and presented at the city's Saatchi Gallery.
"Creating an immersive and detailed world is an inherently expensive proposition but something we believe is important in order to truly transport audiences into a realistic environment that fully serves the Pussy Riot story," said artists from Les Enfants Terribles in the project's KickStartercampaign. "Now is a perfect time to remind audiences what actually happened and how one’s basic human rights and freedom of expression can be taken away at any point."
As the producers point out, the project will be far from just a play, but rather an immersive, fully realized world that takes you into the terrifying worlds Pussy Riot's members found themselves in over the course of their acts of resistance.
"The audience will actually get the chance to re-live each one of these experiences themselves, learning what it means to be a political opponent in Russia today," explained Pussy Riot's own Nadya Nadya Tolokonnikova. "We’ll take you on a journey from the cathedral altar deep into the vaults of the Kremlin itself. Hopefully, this is a journey that you’ll only have to make once in your life."
Donating to the Kickstarter can earn you T-shirts, signed original art, and even tours of Moscow from Tolokonnikova herself. Nadya will also appear in some select runs of the show, including its first on opening night.
