Conceptual artist Florentijin Hofeman’s giant rubber duck sculpture, called “Spreading Joy Around the World,” hit Hong Kong last week and will be bobbing its way around the harbor until June 9.
As Hofeman describes the sculpture on this website: “The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connection. The friendly, floating duck has healing properties; it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!”
The duck has been floating around the world since 2007 and has previously been in St. Nazaire, France; Sao Paulo; Auckland; Hasselt, Belgium; Sydney; Nürmberg; and Amsterdam.
