Look up! Yes, those are seven upside down Christmas trees suspended from the 90-foot rotunda of Liberty Hotel located in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston. But don't worry, you haven't had too much eggnog, it's all intentional. John LaRoche, creative director and owner of blueGuava Design Group (based in the South End neighborhood), and his team installed the unexpected holiday display with plenty of safety in mind. And those 9-foot-tall trees don't look any worse for wear.

Each year, the holiday installation is a popular draw for locals and travelers and guests can walk around each catwalk from the third to the fifth floors and enjoy all the trees from different levels, angles, and views (even the very flat top, normally the bottom of the tree, is decorated and lit).

"I wanted to create something spectacular and dramatic yet inviting, creative and practical for the Liberty Hotel's lively, influential, and vibrant guests," Laroche explains. "The installation's 'floating architectural element' design utilizes the open-air, 90-foot-high rotunda and offers a non-denominational decor to all floors without being cliche and obvious. Everyone has a front row seat."

The installation is a perfect setting for the Liberty Hotel, a national historic hotel landmark and architectural gem built in 1851, which was formerly the Charles Street Jail. And if you want to understand the scope of the installation by the numbers: there are a total of 1,500 holiday tree lights;
720 tiny cluster glass ornaments;
65 3-inch glass ornaments;
50 yards of bronze sheer ribbon;
36 5-inch glass Ornaments;
12 hand-blown grape cluster ornaments. But the spectacle can't be captured by sheer numbers alone. Visit the Liberty Hotel in Boston to check it out for yourself.
