Thompson Hotels -- with nine hotels located in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, DC -- is set to open its first international property in Toronto, scheduled for June 1. There are five NYC-based Thompson Hotels, including 60 Thompson, among the best known -- a super-chic boutique luxury hotel near all the shopping madness in SoHo.
The Thompson Toronto, pictured at right is built in a brand-spanking new building sheathed in glass and features 16 floors and only 102 guestrooms with a huge amount of dining space. There will be a 24-hour diner, a sushi spot (Wabora), and an outpost of Chef Scott Conant's Scarpetta, one of the finest and most critically acclaimed modern Italian restaurants in New York, located on 14th St just east of 9th Ave on the edge between the Meatpacking District and gay-favored Chelsea.
Thompon's private 16th-floor, with its gorgeous views of the city, above, includes the pool with seasonal cabanas and an indoor lounge open year-round. During winter, pack your ice skates: The hotel's patio will double as a public ice skating rink in the colder months.
