Chaka Khan has been confirmed as one of many singular talents who’ll be performing free of charge at this year’s BRIC series of outdoor concerts in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.
Others announced today include former OUT 100 honoree Taylor Mac, performing a supercharged version of his 24-Decade History of Popular Music, Lucinda Williams, and Damien Rice. In addition, BRIC will host two screenings, including the classic 1926 Rudolph Valentino silent movie, The Son of the Sheik, set to live music, and, in celebration of Pride, the classic documentary on New York City ball culture, Paris is Burning.
The festival, which runs from June 3 to August 12 and is free, has been instrumental in Brooklyn’s renaissance, drawing up to 200,000 people each season. Launched in 1979, when Prospect Park was in a spiral of decline, it has become a popular summer mainstay, and is sponsored this year by Squarespace.
