When you think of Miami you probably picture sunny weather, beautiful beaches, and incredible nightlife. It truly is a destination where you can have fun in the sun all year long, but there’s also rich LGBTQ+ history everywhere you look. Neither of us had been to Miami before so we were really looking forward to exploring what this tropical metropolis has to offer.
Will & James stayed at the “hetero-friendly” AxelBeach Miami
How could we not stay at the AxelBeach Miami, the hotel that loves to tout itself as “hetero-friendly” for those non-LGBTQ+ community travelers? The Axel Brand opened its first U.S. location in Miami Beach in January 2020, and it is the perfect location for exploring the Miami Beach Boardwalk.

We were able to explore the art and history of the Miami Beach Boardwalk on a walking tour with Howard Brayer, a tour guide and volunteer with the Miami Design Preservation League, and adventure into the Everglades with Houston Cypress, a two-spirited member of the Miccosukee Otter Clan and the activist behind Love the Everglades Movement.
