Your trip to the temperate Caribbean should be complimented by a stay at an accommodating resort.

After undergoing a $40 million renovation, the Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel & Casino is set for its grand opening this month.

Featuring 300 rooms on 10 floors, the Renaissance boasts breathtaking views of the ocean that guests can enjoy from the pool area. Whether lounging in or next to the pool, or in one of cozily shaded cabanas, each of which has been adorned with a unique mural from a local artist. Scenes and people from the Caribbean give the small spaces an urban feel and make for a pleasant contrast with the cresting waves of the sea.

The union of modern design and local cuisine at the resort’s restaurant during dinner make it the perfect place to relax and dine before a night out or after an evening on the town — the octopus tentacle is particularly good. The continental breakfast features favorites from far and wide including pastries, fresh fruit, and the usual eggs and sides.

The resort is also equipped with a 24-hour fitness center that includes treadmills, ellipticals, free-weights, and weight machines, though a run along the waterfront may be a more vacation-worthy way to get your exercise.  (Cost per night ranges from $159 to $189.)
