Vienna’s Streetlights Go Gay For Eurovision

Later this month, thousands of people will flock to Vienna, Austria for the annual Eurovision Song Contest. Celebrating its 60th year, the camp musical competition sees each participant nation select one artist to represent the country with an original song. Last year’s event took place in Copenhagen, and saw Austrian drag performer Conchita Wurst take the crown.

Eurovision has long been a staple on the LGBT calendar, and in anticipation of the hordes of gay fans, Vienna has taken a beautiful stand for equality: they’ve changed their crosswalk signs. In a statement, the city's mayor said the new signals are "a sign of openness and tolerance." 

The campaign is intended to show how open Austrian society is and, according to city officials, improve traffic. Regardless, it makes a fine addition to the host city for both Life Ball and Eurovision.
