It's a Mod, Mod World: Palm Springs Modernism Week

Palm Springs celebrates its 10th Annual Modernism Week

For any devotee of Modernism, Palm Springs is mecca. And the best time to make a pilgrimage is during Modernism Week, February 12 - 22, 2015. Now in its tenth year, Modernism Week boasts a schedule chock full of fantastic tours, lectures, cocktail parties and other events devised to celebrate all things mid-century.

Start with a great overview by hopping on board the Premier Double Decker Bus Tour for a guided glimpse into the city’s most prominent architectural gems and catch some fun history of the famous names that may have graced their doorways along the way.

For those who prefer to travel on foot, myriad walking tours though iconic neighborhoods such as Old Las Palmas (former residents include Elizabeth Taylor and Katharine Hepburn) or Deepwell Estates (home to Liberace and Eva Gabor) are available throughout the week. The popular Frey House II tours of legendary architect Albert Frey’s residence and its stunning views of the Coachella Valley are also should not be missed.

Keynote speaker Todd Oldham will give a visually entertaining talk on the career of artist and designer Alexander Girard, with some attendees able to meet the designer poolside for cocktails. And, for that perfect souvenir (Eames chair, anyone?) the Palm Springs Convention Center will host 85 international dealers of mid-century furniture, decorative and fine arts.

Although some events have already sold out, tickets for many are still available. Visit ModernismWeek.com for the complete schedule.
