“In September, I caught a news report on how President Obama had bucked tradition while visiting New York, abandoning the Waldorf Astoria and choosing to stay at The New York Palace instead,” says Brandon Voss, producer of Voss Events. “I thought, what better place to celebrate New Years Eve than the president’s hotel of choice?”
Voss Events will host its seventh annual New Year’s Eve celebration, The Reflections Gala, at the historic Lotte New York Palace Hotel. The black tie event begins with a three-course meal prepared by the hotel’s master chef, followed by art, performances, and dancing in the five rooms of the hotel’s Gilded Age-era Villard Mansion.
Performance artist Daniel Thorne has designed tableaus throughout the mansion featuring live art, projections, and costumes in visual representations of imagined future realities. Performers include hip-hop artist Nomi Ruiz (known for collaboration with Hercules and Love Affair) performing live, and Fire Island legend DJ Lina and nu-disco DJ W. Jeremy on turntables. At midnight approaches, all the artists will unite on the main stage of the Madison Ballroom. The event also includes a premium open bar.
“Gay events of this caliber are rare but we have so much to celebrate and reflect upon this year,” says Voss. “Same-sex marriage was legalized in the United States, we are finally getting the attention we deserve in government and pop culture. The fact that an event like this is taking place in one of the city’s most distinguished venues, that alone is progress! These recent achievements are only the beginning,” Voss adds. “We will reflect upon them at New Years Eve: Reflections Gala while also celebrating the promise of the New Year.”
