Arne Jacobsen
In the late ’50s Jacobsen was tasked with creating the very first “design hotel,” for which he developed every detail from the facade all the way down to the ashtrays. Famous for his chair designs, Jacobsen fancied himself an architect first and foremost, and was a Brutalist in his interpretation of Danish Functionalism—that a building’s design should be based on its usage at the expense of its aesthetic.
