New Yorkers put up with a lot to live in the Big Apple. Our neighbor to the north wants to give them some breathing room.

Think your New York City apartment is THE SMALLEST? Prove it and Destination Canada (the official government tourism board) will help you escape to the Great White North. The creative new tourism campaign, suggests that even New Yorkers believe “the only thing better than calling New York City home is escaping it.” Pointing to a “recent survey” a statement to the press argues that nearly 70 percent of surveyed New Yorkers want to get away but can’t always afford to.

Also from the survey:

  • To save money, 32 percent of New Yorkers would be willing to go without a major appliance in their home and 27 percent would live in a 5th-floor walkup.
  • Twenty-four percent of New Yorkers admitted they maintain friendships with people just to spend time in their larger homes.
  • And 71 percent of New Yorkers say they already “endure oddball living conditions” in order to save money to travel. It's true, people really do use their ovens for shoe storage.

But don’t despair, Destination Canada is here to rescue New Yorkers from small apartments by giving away free escapes to Canada’s vast open spaces.

And they’ve teamed up with TikTok legend Caleb Simpson (the “can I see your apartment” guy) to do it. As Simpson explains in a recent Instagram post:
