From serving up luxury to living in the lap of it.
After reading a story in the Miami Herald about the ridiculously long commutes many Miami housekeeping staff must endure to do their jobs, Drake decided to tip his Fontainebleau Hotel maid to an all-out VIP day. Dizzy treated hotel worker Odelie Paret and one of her friends to a day of pampering that included a $10,000 shopping spree.
Paret thought it was just another day in her 21-year career at the hotel, but she soon found herself on the phone with a mystery caller telling her that a spa treatment and dinner had been arranged for her and her friend. It seemed like her night couldn’t get any better, but soon Paret was whisked away to Brickell City Centre. She knew, though, that mall was already closed, but she and her friend walked in the front doors regardless. Inside, she saw Drake and Steelers-star Antonio Brown.
“I always just saw him on the TV. So I said, ‘Drake!’” she told the Miami Herald. “It made me happy. ... I thank him so much.”
The two told Paret that they then had 45 minutes to purchase whatever they wanted—she took home a $6,000 diamond necklace.
While we all don’t have Drake money to treat hotel staff the way he did, it is an important reminder to always tip and appreciate their hard work. The American Hotel Association suggests just $1-$5, which could make a huge difference in someone's life.
