Celebrate National Mezcal Day with a classic.
Saturday, October 21 marked one of the most important holidays of the year, National Mezcal Day. If you missed it, a belated celebration is still acceptable. What better way to celebrate than with one of the most classic cocktails there is?
El Vez, one of our favorite Mexican restaurant with locations in New York and Philadelphia, boasts a wide selection of tequilas and mezcals, making it the perfect place to celebrate. With a tasty selection of Margarita flavors, including Frozen Blood Orange, Lavender-Honey Jalapeno, Hibiscus, and Burnt Grapefruit, there's a concoction for everyone. But you can't go wrong with a classic.
We caught up with Mark Murphy, award-winning mixologist and head bartender at El Vez, to get his take on the drink. He shared the recipe for the El Vez Classic Margarita, which all comes down to the agave nectar.
2 oz Fidencio Clasico
1 oz fresh lime juice
.75 oz amber agave syrup
To make the syrup, mix equal parts water and amber agave nectar. Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Add ice, shake, and then strain over fresh ice into a salt rimmed glass.
"Margaritas, when made precisely, are a very simple but delicious recipe," Murphy says. "Try this at home, or come to El Vez where I can shake one fresh for you with one of our over 200 tequilas and agave spirits. Cheers!"
