A Proustian Interview with Tore Ådneram

HostwithPride

Get to know Norway with a member of Norwegian's cabin crew.

Name:  Tore Ådneram

Age: 40
Hometown: Sirdal in the southwestern part of Norway, but I’ve lived in Oslo since 2005.

What are three things people should know about you?
I am very energetic. I am a true believer in the philosophy of Karma. And I have a cheeky sense of humor.

When traveling, what do you never leave home without?
My cellphone, wallet, house keys, and a novel, which I never find the time to read though….

Where is your all-time favorite travel destination?
A Norwegian destination not far from where I grew up: Lysefjorden, due to its breathtaking scenery of mountains and its endless fjord. It can be accessed from the mountains of Sirdal or via ferry boat from Stavanger.

Describe the perfect weekend in Oslo.
Since Oslo is a combination of both urban and the great outdoors, the balance is perfect. In the warmer months, most of my weekends consist of exploring the city beaches, bars, restaurants and socializing with friends. My favorite restaurant in Oslo is Sydøst in Grünerløkka which serves Asian fusion cuisine.

What is your favorite neighborhood?
Telthusbakken in Grünerløkka, due to its 19th century architecture and traditional wooden houses in numerous shades of colors. When painter Edward Munch, whose most famous work is "The Scream", was young, he would sit in his parents’ home and draw paintings of the view.

Tell us about your favorite bar.
The Q lounge Rooftop Bar at First Hotel Grmis Grenka, which has a nice terrace and bar. From the rooftop you have a panoramic view of the city sky line.

If you had to give a visitor one keepsake from Oslo, what would it be?
Norwegian milk chocolate, which is simply the best chocolate in the world.

What do you dislike most about Oslo?
A rainy day.
