Anti-Marriage Equality Protesters Swarm Legislative Building In Taiwan

Over 10,000 protesters showed up to demonstrate their stance against same-sex marriage.

The Legislative Yuan building in Taiwan was surrounded with anti-gay marriage protesters yesterday as the office reviewed a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage.

If the bill were to pass it would make Taiwan the only country in Asia to institute marriage equality.

“Only a heterosexual marriage can create the possibility of bearing children and only then can we sustain the nation’s next generation,” said Wang Tzu-hao, a pastor representing the group, South China Morning Postreports

David Tseng, the spokesman for The Happiness of the Next Generation Alliance, which helped to organize the rally, said: “Now they want to amend the law to do away with the ‘father’ and ‘mother’ altogether. We are different from the West. In Eastern culture, we place great importance on filial piety to one’s father and mother. This is a virtue we must keep."
