Planes of the Future Could Ditch Windows for Huge Video Screens

Windows add weight to planes, so a solution may be to do away with them once and for all.

A British company is working on a concept for commercial jets that would replace windows — which are heavy and increase fuel costs — and replace them with huge OLED screens that broadcast an array of information.

Such a plane is at least a decade away, Buzzfeed reports, but could become a reality thanks to the cost-savings of cutting windows from planes (as is done in cargo jets). To entertain fliers, huge OLED screens could be outfitted on the plane's interior sides. Cameras on the planes' exteriors could broadcast the view from outside, and switch over to safety videos, in-flight films, or internet access.
